Buckle up, this is a huge update!

Python got updated to 3.6 and a huge amount of other packages depending on it needed to be rebuilt for that reason.

Mind that some of your packages from the AUR might also need a rebuild.
To identify these, do the stable update first and then check if libraries are still installed in the directory /usr/lib/python3.5/site-packages:
pacman -Qo /usr/lib/python3.5/site-packages
will return the packages owning such files. If this returns empty you don't need to do anything. If it returns packages from the AUR, you need to reinstall them with
yaourt -S <packagename>
With this update Xorg-server is updated to 1.19. Experience on unstable and testing branches suggests that everything was well prepared and the update should be rather uneventful.

You will be asked to remove deprecated drivers xf86-input-acecad and xf86-input-joystick. Please confirm that.

freetype2 is going to "rename" terminus-font to "Xos4 Terminus".

Please make sure to rename the font accordingly in your settings!
The update of harfbuzz is incompatible with infinality-bundle! This is a serious problem on Plasma 5 and kinit will fail!

Please consider returning to native freetype2 subpixel rendering or try the updated freetype2-infinality package from here.

New in our repos is cinnamon-sounds, a collection of the original Linuxmint system-sounds for the Mate and Cinnamon desktops.
We have new version of Inkscape (0.92), ruby (2.4) and gcc (6.3.
The new default manjaro-KDE themes collection Breath, again designed by @mcder3, is now almost final with: plasma5-themes-breath, breath-wallpaper, breath-icon-theme , breath-dark-icon-theme and sddm-breath-theme - a few more adjustments to the wallpaper are still in preparation.
Xreader has now added epub support, Deepin-desktop received a bugfix and some KDE apps were updated aswell.
All kernels of the 4.x series and our rt-kernels have seen new point releases.

Linux48 has been labelled End-Of-Life and will be removed in the near future. So please consider moving on to linux49, which is going to be the next LTS kernel.

Das neue Standard Dark Theme und Kernel 4.9 LTS klingen interessant.

Dann würde ich das direkt für eine Neuinstallation diese Woche nutzen?

Gibt ja derzeit 16.10.3 und die Alpha von 17, wenn ich richtig liege.

Die Alpha ISOs sollte man besser nicht für eine Neuinstallation nehmen, richtig?

Neuinstallationen sind bei einem RR System, wie Manjaro, eher unnötig. Vielleicht dann, wenn man das System derart verbastelt hat, dass nichts mehr läuft.

Neue PCs und ein wegen Partition Ãœberlauf zerlegtes. (Kein Speicher mehr) Startete deshalb nicht mehr und die Partition wurde leer angezeigt. Mit Testdisk konnte ich auch nichts mehr finden.

Bei mir lief auf meinem Laptop (LXQt) scheinbar alles klar, bis ich versuchte seafile zu aktualisieren, was nicht gelang. Später versuchte ich Virtualbox zu starten. Das geht aber nicht.
Wenn ich den Start im Terminal anrege, erhalte ich folgende Fehlermeldung:

scheiterte auch die Seafile-Aktualisierung.
Ich fürchte, abhängig davon, ob Anwendungen auf "libharfbuzz.so.0" bzw. die Datei, auf die diese Verknüpfung hinweist, zugreifen müssen, ist vor diesem Update zu warnen. Ich warte bei meinen anderen Rechnern ab.

Man kann Pakete (oder Paketgruppen) auch von der Aktualisierung ausschließen, wenn sie als fehlerhaft erkannt wurden. Hat den Vorteil, dass nicht auf das ganze Update verzichtet werden muß. Wichtig bei Sicherheitsupdates.

Als ob ich es gerochen hätte ... vorher eine Sicherung gemacht ... dennoch: Mein Rechner fährt hoch, die üblichen Infos laufen über den Bildschirm bis zum Hinweis irgendetwas mit Plymouth und dann wird es schwarz wie die Nacht.
Mittels Strg+Alt+F3 und Einloggen habe ich startx versucht, was der Rechner mit einer Fehlermeldung quittierte. Dann habe ich folgenden Befehl eingegeben:

und erhilet die Antwort:

Schließlich installierte ich alle Nvidia-Pakete neu. Alles ohne ein sichtbares Ergebnis. Was könnte ich ansonsten noch machen? (Würde das System gern retten statt das alte neu einzuspielen ...)

Ich bin ein wenig schlauer geworden. Vorgeschichte: Ich wollte copyq und seafile aus dem AUR aktualisieren. Die aber meckern, weil ich Pakete verwende, die nicht mehr so up to date sind. Also habe ich sie deinstalliert:

sudo pacman -Rdd freetype2-infinality-ultimate fontconfig-infinality-ultimate

und statt dessen

sudo pacman -S freetype2

installiert. Unmittelbar danach merkte ich schon, dass sich kein Terminal mehr öffnen ließ. Nach einem Neustart ging dann gar nichts mehr. Nun habe ich freetype2 deinstalliert und die beiden anderen Pakete installiert - die Kiste läuft wieder mit graphischer Oberfläche. Aber einige Pakete kann ich nicht upgraden.
Die oben genannte Operation hatte ich auf meinem Laptop mit Intel-onboard-Graphik auch gemacht - da gab es keine Probleme ... Und nun?

Ja, drei und acht sollte man unterscheiden können ... Ansonsten habe ich es jetzt alles hinbekommen. Der Befehl

reichte nicht, sondern der korrekte musste lauten:

sudo pacman -S fontconfig freetype2 

Dann stimmte ich dem Entfernen aller *infinality*-Pakete zu. Eine Neuinstallierung irgendwelcher Graphiktreiber war dann überflüssig. Auch nach Neustart lief das System ohne Komplikationen. Was ich schon jetzt nicht mehr weiß ist, wie ich auf die Idee gekommen bin, auch fontconfig neu zu installieren ... vielleicht, weil es im ersten Anlauf nicht gereicht hatte, freetype2 zu installieren ...
